K&R CURBING WARRANTY & CARE

Care for your new curbing during the first week after installation

  • Keep pets, children and objects away from the curb for at least 24 hours. It will be "hard" to the touch at this point, but still needs several days to cure.
  • Once in a while curbing with colour in it may look "splotchy" for a few days while it is curing. This will go away as it cures and is not to be confused with efflorescence.
  • Sod laying, sprinkler work and landscape work can be started 48 hours after the installation; however, caution must be taken as shovels, picks and wheelbarrows can damage the curb for several more days while it is fully curing.
  • After installation of curbing and working crew has left it is the homeowners responsibility to project the fresh curbing. If it begins to rain within 6 hours after we leave the job, try to cover the curb with plastic. Make sure sprinkler systems do not come on for at least 24 hours. Irrigation, backwash from pools, condensate lines, or rain can damage the curb during the first 24 hours.
  • When curbing is installed as a retrofit (grass already in place) there will be a small amount of concrete on the ground between the new curb and the grass. It is very difficult to remove this concrete while it is still wet. After a 48 hour curing period, it can be picked up in small pieces and thrown away.

Maintenance and care of your new curbing long term

Sealing- 28 days after the curbing has been laid we  highly recommend applying a sealer to the curb. This will allow for the curb to keep its colour longer as well as  protecting the curb . You can get this sealer at Unicon Concrete Products. If you would like a matte finish the sealer is called "Uniseal "(Acrylic Sealer). If you would like a high gloss finish you would get "Unisheen" (Acrylic sealer).

We recommend washing the curb off the night before and then applying the sealer with a sprayer (matte) or roll on brush (high gloss)  the next day. We recommend sealing the curbing once a year following installation to protect your investment. We offer resealing at a charge, please contact for pricing.

Cracking - concrete curbing like any other type of concrete can and will crack. We experience very little cracking, outside of the designed joints, in our products. It is important to note: Repairs can be difficult to make in coloured concrete. It is impossible to get a perfect colour match. Sometimes the "cure is worse than the illness." A hairline crack is much less noticeable than a patch or discolouration in the curbing.

Efflorescence (white powder substance) can appear on occasion and does not look good on curbing. It is generated from water sprinkling systems and can also appear after a rainstorm. The intensity of efflorescence varies depending upon the type (hardness) or water and the volume of water that gets on the curb. Check your sprinkler heads while the system is on and try to adjust them to minimize the amount of water spraying directly on the curb. If you have just planted sod and are watering frequently, efflorescence may appear more readily. Be patient, wait for lawn to get established, turn water off for a few days, and then clean the curb after it dries. A solution of 50/50 vinegar and water with a light brushing will remove the efflorescence. You may have to do this a few times; eventually, the efflorescence should go away.

Warranty Period and Conditions

"Please note that warranty will only be covered if proper sealing measures have taken place"

K&R Curbing has a one-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. It will be replaced at no charge if the materials we use or the way it was installed by our workmen causes the defect. Warranty does not cover third party damage.

Concrete curbing, like any other concrete product CAN and WILL crack. We take every precaution to prevent cracking. Fibre reinforcement and the best chemical additives are added to our mixture. Control joints are installed approximately every two feet to provide a strategic relief point for the curbing. Unfortunately with our harsh climate and extreme movement of the ground we do occasionally experience cracking between the joints. This is ONLY covered by warranty in the curbing season the curbs were installed. Winter Voids crack repairs as it’s caused by mother nature and not by materials or workmanship.

All warranty issues MUST be reported before October 31st in the year the curbs where installed.

Winter damage to the surface of the curbing also known as the (freeze thaw cycle) Is NOT covered by warranty. This occurs when moisture in the concrete freezes and expands and chips away the surface of the concrete. This also causes sealer chipping, spotting, discolouration, pitting, and spalling. Although very undesirable it’s a reality of our harsh Alberta winters. This damage to the curbing is not caused by materials or workmanship but by mother nature. A fresh coat of sealer or tinted sealer will usually rectify the situation.

If curbing is damaged we will come back and make necessary repairs; however, there is a $300 minimum charge for this service.

Damage to sprinkler lines, telephone wire, cable TV, or other buried items by our equipment or personnel is not the responsibility of K&R Curbing. However, if these items are properly marked we will do everything we can to avoid and protect these lines.

Please read and understand terms of the warranty before the curbing is installed. A copy of the warranty is available upon request.

Thank you for using our product. We know you will enjoy it for years to come. If you have any questions regarding our curbing, please call us.
